Homework Hub – Free academic tutoring is every Thursday after school in PC200 from 2:15 – 3:00.  Bring whatever work you need help in.  PC200 is also open for study hall after school, for those who need a quiet place to work before athletic practice.  See you in Homework Hub on Thursdays.

Yearbooks – Yearbooks are on sale for $80.00.  If the student wishes to have their names imprinted on the cover, it is an additional $5.00.  They may also be purchased online at: jostensyearbooks.com.  Order forms are available in the office.

Counselors Office

The American Legion, annually sponsors a program for teens who have an interest in a career in law enforcement.  This year, the 7 day program will cost $250.00.  If you are interested, please stop by the Counseling Department for a brochure.

The Summer Study programs are being offered at Penn State University, the University of Colorado at Boulder, the University of Vermont and the Sorbonne.  You can study for 2 to 6 weeks at one of these universities and earn college credit.  Check out their websites www.bestsummerever.com or www.summerstudy.com or stop by the Counseling office for more information.

Seniors:  If you are planning to attend college in the fall, it is now time to complete the FAFSA.  The FAFSA is an application for federal student aid.  You can log in to fafsa.ed.gov and complete the application.  This information will help the federal government determine your eligibility for grants and loans to help you pay for college.

Scholarships

Youth Automobile Safety Scholarship Program for 2011 is offering scholarship opportunities for high school seniors.  The deadline is May 13th.  Application forms are available online at cseinsurance.com/scholarship.

SCC Scholarship – We are encouraging students to register during the first month of registration – sort of an early bird registration period.  Students who register for Fall semester prior to April 30th will be automatically entered into a drawing to win a $250.00 Scholarship.

A Senior Women’s Group is awarding a $750 scholarship to a graduating senior girl that is a resident of Fountain Hills, planning a career in education, nursing or has an economic need. Applications are available in the counseling office and must be RECEIVED by April 25th.

Seniors, if you are planning to attend an in-state college next year and you are interested in an honors program, check out the Flinn Scholars Program. Flinn Scholars rank in the top 5% of their graduating class, have a 3.5 GPA, score a minimum of a 1300 on the SAT (critical reading and math) or 29 on the ACT, and participate and demonstrate leadership.  Please join representatives from the Flinn Foundation Scholarship Program on Tuesday, March 29th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm or Wednesday, March 30th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Arizona Science Center for more information.

Volleypuff – If any boys are interested in playing volleypuff, permission slips are available in the office.  Cost is $5.00 per person and you can have 6-10 players.  Permission slips are due Monday, March 28th.  The tournament will take place Wednesday, March 30h at 7:00pm. Admission is $2.00.

PROM – Prom tickets are on sale in Mr. Burnett’s room CIA109.  Cost is $50.00per ticket.  The last day to purchase tickets is April 1st and no tickets will be sold at the door.

AIMS Math Review – AIMS Math review will take place March 28th – 31st and April 4th.  The review session will be held in TO100 and will go from 2:20 to 2:50.

Falcon Fiesta – Registration has begun.  Cost is $50.00 and can be purchased in the office.

Homework Hub – Free academic tutoring is every Thursday after school in PC200 from 2:15 – 3:00.  Bring whatever work you need help in.  PC200 is also open for study hall after school, for those who need a quiet place to work before athletic practice.  See you in Homework Hub on Thursdays.

The American Legion Boys State of Arizona is now accepting applications for Boys State.  This year’s session will be held June 5-11 on the NAU campus.  This prestigious opportunity is available to two FHHS junior boys. The American Legion, annually sponsors a program for teens who have an interest in a career in law enforcement.  This year, the 7 day program will cost $250.00.  If you are interested, please stop by the Counseling Department for a brochure.

Sunset Kiwanis Scholarship – Sunset Kiwanis of Fountain Hills will once again award a $500.00 scholarship to any graduating senior resident of Fountain Hills.  You must submit a one-page type written letter to be received by April 12th stating financial need, community service, academic scholarship, and educational goals. The Fountain Hills Cultural and Civic Association needs your help with their in home concerts. Community Service

The Fountain Hills Cultural and Civic Association needs your help with their in home concerts. They are looking for a student (with a truck) to help move chairs from storage to a private home to set up and then return the chairs to storage after the concerts.  The concerts are held on Sunday’s and would require about two hours each Sunday.  If interested, please call Carol Coates at 837-1063.

Juniors: The Med-Start program at The University Arizona is a five week academic enrichment and health career exploration program. It is designed to provide a real-life college experience for high school students and expose them to various health careers. This year, the program will be held from June 5, 2011 to July 9, 2011 on both our University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine campuses, in Tucson and in Phoenix. The annual Fountain Hills High School Curriculum Night for next year’s freshman class (class of 2015) will be held in the FHHS gymnasium on Monday, January 24, 2011, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.    Parents and students are encouraged to attend this important event to review the FHHS registration packet for the 2011-2012 school year.  There will also be an opportunity for parents and students to meet with department leaders, administrators and support staff, as well as various advisors and coaches for our extracurricular programs.

During the month of February the FHHS counselors will be visiting the Middle School and the Fountain Hills Charter School to review the registration process with students.

The Recycling Club is now recycling old batteries!!! If you have any AA, AAA, C, D, small watch batteries, etc. please bring them in to the front office. You will see a giant Energizer battery under the desk close to Dawn. Place your drained batteries in the bucket and we will take them to be properly discarded.

 We also wanted the staff to know how well recycling club has been doing. Since the beginning of the year, we have recycled over 1,600 plastic bottles, 750 aluminum cans, and over 600 pounds of paper. Yes, we count and weigh everything that comes in. J

 Thank you all so much for helping recycling club succeed. We couldn’t do it if you all didn’t help us!

Leadership Scholarship at ASU!  A four year scholarship from ASU is offered for excellence in leadership.  There is only one nomination per high school. Let your counselor know if you are interested in being considered for nomination!
